For me, every human being is an artist, as long as they are allowed to develop with respect and freedom, to deepen and broaden their lives and their experiments. So that each person can find his or her own particularity, imagination and authenticity.
I'm always amazed to see objects made from a block of clay, after kneading it, shaping it, modelling it, leaving it to dry (for at least 2 weeks), firing it first at 1000 degrees in the huge gas kiln "La Gertrude", then decorating it, enamelling it and firing it a second time at around 1230 degrees, waiting a day for the kiln to cool down to 100 degrees - that's the hardest part - then finally opening the door of the kiln and .... discovering the final result.
It's a whole apprenticeship in patience! Whether it's a useful object, the joy of drinking from your own bowl or eating from your own plate, or a decorative object.
What an indescribable emotion! In each step of this process, I rely solely on traditional handcrafting techniques without the use of an electric or kick wheel. This approach allows for each piece to not only carry the marks of its making but also the spirit of authentic ceramic artistry.
Each time I combine paint, acrylic or watercolour, on canvas or on paper, seeing the pigments settle on the grain of the paper takes me on a fascinating voyage of experimentation. The results are often far removed from my original idea, and it's with great emotion and joy that I see your reactions to my creations, which are no longer my own.
